I love this restaurant.. You are always guaranteed delicious and properly prepared food with the best entertainment...... I usually go with my husband and a friend on Sat night to see the Danny Sinoff band but have recently gone on a Friday night and was equally entertained. It is so nice to get the best of both worlds.. The restaurant itself is decorated so tastefully and always has a fresh flower on your table... I love the service as it is very professional and catering to you... My favorite is the stuffed pork chop with gorgonzola... They do make special requests as well.. Dont miss this restaurant the next time you are anywhere close to this strip mall of San Carlos in Ft. Myers,.... A must destination.!!!!!!

This location has seen several restaurant iterations. This one pings on what people actually like. The menu when being read is big enough to hide the person across the table from you. I focused on the seafood. Apart from the kitchen's efficient yet redundant "jasmine rice" offered with most fish selections, the fish variety is good. I had a rich concoction of shrimp, scallops, and scrod beneath a crumb topping. It was tasty. What, actually, is a scrod? Sounds anatomical. I preferred to stay ignorant while eating it ALL. My friends had a luscious chicken marsala, and a red, red Maine lobster tail brimming with white, cold water lobstah. My Italian friend coaxed two diners into an after dinner order of Black Sambucco. I admired their culinary sensibilities despite my own nose insisting that the liqueur was liquid licorice - and something better left to others. An easy jazz duo performed in the cabaret area. Many couples danced. The place stays open until 10. On this night, the performers abandoned the easy listening jazz and defaulted to SWFL standard pop of the 1950s-70s. There goes the entertainment neighborhood. There's a lot of parking in the well lit strip mall where the Roadhouse occupies a convenient location. Reservations are a must; diners are given time limits at their table. That's not terrible. Just move to the cabaret bar to finish an enjoyable evening of good food and live music without a cover charge.

I was spending a week in Sanibel and wanted to find somewhere special for Mother's Day. I had already tried most of the fine dining establishments on the island, so I turned to Yelp to find somewhere nice off the island and boy did I get lucky! Roadhouse Cafe is a real gem! It's in a small nondescript strip mall and while it doesn't look like much from the outside, you will be pleasantly surprised when you enter. It's nicely decorated, and they are serving up some amazing food and wine in a relaxed unpretentious environment. We had reservations and upon arrival, we were quickly greeted and seated. The live music was lovely, and I enjoyed watching the spunky retirees waltzing on the dance floor! On this Mother's Day, they offered a special menu and handed out roses to all the Moms! This menu was more limited than the regular menu, but it had some great options on it, and we started out with crab cakes and bacon wrapped scallops for our appetizer. Both were excellent. The crab cakes were the real deal, and I loved the sriracha sauce that accompanied the scallops. For the main course, I don't recall the name of the dishes we ordered, but they did not disappoint. My entree was a filet of fish served on a bed of jasmine rice with roasted veggies. The fish was expertly prepared, and the sauce that adorned it was delicious and full of flavor and I cleaned my plate! My friend ordered a pasta dish with chicken, linguine, spinach, olives, and a flavorful sauce. That was also very tasty. We ended this awesome meal with Creme brûlée and a slice of chocolate cake. Both desserts were devine!! I really enjoyed this meal and the first class service provided. I will definitely dine here again the next time I'm in town! This restaurant is a great place to celebrate a special occasion!

We weren't so sure about Roadhouse since it's in a strip mall but we were all pleasantly surprised. We all loved the beet and goat cheese salad - definitely try that for a starter. I had the ahi tuna which was good and was not overcooked, which definitely happens a lot with ahi tuna. Most nights they also have live jazz, which is a nice touch. 222/365

Hard to find strip mall location but the decor is nice and I like the large bar area and piano even if the atmosphere is a bit formal for my tastes. As for the food, let me first say that the menu is huge - literally the menus are so large they are unwieldy and there are also quite a few items. A big point was made about this being a replication of a New England restaurant so local Florida seafood is not used - everything is flown in (and presumably most is frozen). Okay, I'd prefer local fresh fish and spiny lobster be used rather than frozen New England scrod and Maine lobster but maybe that's just me. Overall though the food was decent and the portions were HUGE. Quite honestly, I'd prefer smaller portions and better food - only one person in my group had a dish that was described as "great" (the seafood risotto special) and for the prices you got a lot of seafood but I would have expected more flavor and finesse. My uncle who was sitting next to me ordered the highly recommended Lamb cooked medium and it came out blue in the middle - that just shouldn't happen in a high end restaurant. Also, the lobster bisque was recommended by the waiter as "the best ever" - while it was certainly not bad it really wasn't anything out of the ordinary (granted, I travel extensively and eat at a lot of good restaurants so my expectations may be higher than most). Roadhouse Cafe is a fine restaurant, but if I'm in someplace like Fort Myers with great local seafood and produce I would much rather have something fresh and local with resonable portions and I don't expect to go back to Roadhouse Cafe. It's not cheap but if you prefer huge portions you'll probably feel it's a decent value because you'll get 2 or 3 meals out of most plates. Just not my style personally.

Very pleasant surprise ... great atmosphere, great service & excellent food, especially the lobster bisque, bacon wrapped scallops & filet. Will definitely be back ... hopefully to enjoy the jazz music that starts at 7:00!!

On a recent first time vacation to Ft Myers Beach we had the pleasure of having our 24th wedding anniversary meal at The Roadhouse. It was recommended by a waitress at another restaurant as a good choice for a special occasion. We loved the food and the ambiance. I had the best and most creative scallop appetizer that I ever ate. Perfectly cooked plump sea scallops in a dill/white chocolate sauce. My husband had the Rack of Lamb special which was the best lamb that he ever had. It was pricey $43.00 but a huge portion, expertly cooked to medium rare with potatoes and spinach. Worth every penny. Autumm our waitress was excellent, even though she called my husband "Sir" which made him feel old (Hello....he is) She also brought us a complimentary dessert and had the band announce that it was our anniversary. We live in New England and go to the 5 star White Barn Inn in Kennebunkport ME once a year. We both agreed that this meal topped any that we have had there. Bravo!

Great Food, Excellent Service and Fantastic Music. The prices are very reasonable. I was blown away with this place. The Jazz Quartet was amazing. If you have a special occasion or you want to impress your date, then take her here. If this place was in any major city the prices would be triple and you'd have to pay a cover. Great place.

Roadhouse Café is a classic nightclub with excellent food, excellent entertainment and excellent service. I cannot believe we have lived in Fort Myers for this long and had no idea about this place. It is similar to a New York Style nightclub, cabaret in nature. Danny and his band are excellent, he has a great voice and the band loves what they do. As for dinner, well we have been twice and it was superb both times. I would like to add that we are upscale diners and understand what goes into same. Their wine selection is good, we had Filet with lobster, wife had Diver scallops with Risotto, friends had duck and pork. All meals were perfect. Cheese plate was excellent as well, and the Beet salad very good as well. We celebrated our anniversary there and the staff handled service very well from the beverage server to our server, never a glass empty, never dirty plates left. Everything you would want from a upscale dining experience. I would recommend taking another couple with you when you do, dancing available as well. I cannot wait to go back. Thank you to all that made our evening absolutely wonderful.

I love this place. I love the live music and fabulous musicians. Last weekend they had my Walt Andrus singing his Jazz/swing (F. Sinatra) tunes. The staff is super friendly and it IS TRULY a family atmosphere. Olive Garden says "when you're here you're family" but the folks at the Roadhouse truly make you feel like family. The inside of the restaurant is very elegant and the mood is romantic -so grab your woman and give her a long overdue night out ;) I was there twice and maybe will be more often if Walt gets hired there for a steady gig :) Come see him sing you will really love him. He is truly a genuine guy and he loves to socialize. His personality lights up on stage and shares many musical facts about big bands, the musicians, his tour around the world with the Tommy Dorsey Orchestra, even Franky and others he had the pleasure to perform with (Piped Pipers, Chic Chiccietti, Lynn Roberts, the Glenn Miller Orchestra, Nelson Riddle Orchestra and so many more). People even slow danced near the band stand, so charming and sweet. Come on over, enjoy the heavenly music and the food is superb :) I will post some photos later ;)

First, who named this a roadhouse? I was expecting some version of Outback, Texas Roadhouse, etc...This is so not a roadhouse. This is a classic old school chop house. Everything here was amazing. From the appetizer, to the entree, every dish was top shelf. Five Stars!!!!

Very disappointing. Scallops too gritty to eat. Risotto was awful. Steak fillets were tiny. Very expensive dinners for such poor quality servings.

A fine dining experience. This is a first class place, with first class Jazz playing live by your table. For a refreshing change, our server was tip notch. Without asking he brought new clean wine glasses for our second bottlw of wine, perfect! All four dishes were made to perfection, and exceptional display. Nothing is better than a meal that looks as good as it tastes. If you are looking for a romantic dinner date, with the opportunity to dance this is your place. Expect to pay at least $100 or more to play here, but well worth it.

I was quite impressed with this place. Took a group from work on a second hand recommendation. The food was outstanding, between the 4 of us we got a bit of everything and nobody was disappointed. I had the salmon dish and it was outstanding! The live music was good too, we got a table in the back and could carry on a conversation while the band was playing. Just an FYI this is not a shorts & flip flop type of place. One of the few classy places in Ft Myers, I hope it is here for a while.

  • Michelle A.

Literally one of the best surf & turf meals! The lobster tail was so big that I could barely finish it and the filet was juicy and cooked to perfection. And what made this place even better was when my husband called to make a reservation, he was told the whole night was booked up. Yet the hostess was still able to fit us in!

  • Sherrie F.

Don't let the location or facade fool you - this is a hidden gem!! The atmosphere and service are superb. I had seared scallops with mushroom risotto that was perfection. My husband had waygu steak and "mmmm"ed over every bite. The wine selection was above average. And the live jazz completed the feeling of swank. Wish we lived closer - we would certainly be regulars!

Interesting place sort of the middle of nowhere. Normally I avoid food/entertainment combos like the plague as usually both are mediocre. This is really a cool recreation of an 40*s supper club. Live jazz and dancing and the food was terrific. I had a stuffed porkchop to die for, and several had the homey chipotle glazed salmon special. One of us had the duck.waiter was corteous and knowledgable. There is a nuce wine list and a full bar. All this in the scenic Big Lots shopping center. Oh by the way use your gps.its in the back hidden and not on the is where you will find this. Its pricey but worth it. Average entree 25.00 and up.

Food was great, service was great, the only reason I didn't give it five stars was that it I felt a little out of place. Mostly locals and most were much older than me. Other than that, great place.

This place is amazing. Its the diamond in the rough for Fort Myers. Its located in a strip mall, of all places, but the people dress for dinner and the service is excellent. While a little pricey, they are set up to make you comfortable and they hope you stay all night. The entertainment is great. I am not sure the names of the singer and pianist, but she has the voice of an angel and he can play any song well. This is by FAR my favorite place in Fort Myers. I hesitate to even write about it as I doubt anyone but the locals realize what a treasure this place is.

Felt like I went back in time to the 80's. The decor is reminiscent of the mom/pop "higher end" style that was heavily used back in the day. The large menu initially made me apprehensive but as the server began describing his recommendations...he put me at ease. Admittedly, the New York strip was the best my dining partner has had in quite some time. The scallops with the white chocolate sauce was a dish that I had over 15 years ago and still is one of my most favorite eclectic combinations. Server was attentive and professional. The ambiance was a bit dated and dark. The live music was a nice touch and the crowd seemed to gravitate more toward the retirees. In all, a sweet place with a menu that will appeal to those that like a standard menu.

  • M E.

This is among the best restaurants in fort Myers for food, service and ambiance. I have eaten here many, many times-sometimes for special occasions and often just by myself, having a treat of a meal at the bar. Their food is consistently excellent-fresh seafood that is always prepared to perfection, wonderful side dishes, and a kitchen that is always ready to accommodate special requests for mixing and matching sides and main dishes. The most special thing about the roadhouse is their live jazz every evening, and they have a small dance floor for those so inclined. They have a happy hour most week nights with half portions and half prices for many of their menu items.

we had an awesome time here. my husband had the stuffed pork chop which was DELICIOUS and i had the chicken Marsala which was also very very good. the danny sinoff quartet was playing. it was so fun.

The food and atmosphere were great. Excellent ingredients prepared simply and perfectly. The waitstaff was helpful and knowledgable. It is great to eat where the staff clearly understands good food and service. The night we visited there was a great jazz band playing and it was apparent the place was filled with regulars. A patron bought my wife and I a drink because we were in their usual table. A very classy and fun atmosphere.

What a fantastic place! On vacation with two other couples and wanted a fine dining experience on a Saturday night so the Yelp reviews about the food and service drew us to the Roadhouse Cafe, but we were not expecting everything else that came with it. Yeah, it's in a strip mall but you quickly get pass that as you walk in the door and see the classy decor, hip atmosphere and very happy patrons. Looked to the right and an amazing Jazz band was playing live music from a real stage with a dance floor full of dining customers. We had a great time dancing in between courses and enjoying the music while we ate. It truly felt like a night out. The food was great with all six of us very pleased with the quality and the service. It does draw a little bit of an older crowd, but everyone was there to eat, dance and have a good time. Only recommendation would be to change the name: "Roadhouse Cafe" made some of us assume that we'd walk in and see a mechanical bull or peanuts on the floor. DEFINITELY give it a try!

What a surprise find. Jazz, great food what is not to like. Good service and a nice ambience are also a plus I had the veal parm and it was among the best I have had. My companions had similar reaction to their meals. Nice wine list as well. We will return

Great atmosphere.. wait staff competent. Expected more due to relative high prices (compared to other restaurants), but food was mediocre at best. This is a highly populated area and I'm sure in season this restaurant will do well , but if the opportunity presents, go elsewhere!

A New Favorite! Hidden GEM... we would have never found this place hidden away in a shopping plaza if it wasn't for hearing about it from other local foodies! I'm so glad we finally went... Everything from the atmosphere, appetizers to dessert and service was incredible. They have live music most nights, a piano/jazz bar feel. Our server MARTIN was so polite end efficient, one of the best waiters I have had in a long time! Try the stuffed chicken with cornbread & apple stuffing! amazing- we will definitely be back!

  • Andy W.

Our excellent server, Joe, recommended the lobster bisque for the soup course which was the best we ever had. We ate before the live music started, but the food and the service lived up to the five star rating. One of the finest meals I've had in the Ft Myers area.

Great place to eat! A total diamond in the rough!! The service was a little slow at times but we never went without anything. We tried the highly recommended lobster bisque and we were not disappointed. The Roadhouse Cafe will be a regular stop on our dining tour! Excellent food and atmosphere!

I was visiting a friend in Ft. Myers and he'd found The Roadhouse some time ago. I have no idea where Brian C's head is at with his review...I, too, am a world traveler and frequently dine out. There just aren't restaurants like this around. The food was excellent (I was trying to work my way through the menu), full of flavor, the portions were perfect. From all I was able to gather, the food is ALL fresh...the co-owner, Mark, buys much of the food daily/locally. Mark and Sherrie are both charming hosts and extraordinarily guest-centric. No one is excluded from their attention. The staff are, to a person, professional, friendly, helpful, and know the preparations of their menu. Live music nightly featuring truly excellent oldies/traditional/progressive jazz with instruments and vocals. They are expanding by maybe 50% but with a constant eye on maintaining the pleasant and inviting atmosphere. Contrary to the "rating", I didn't find the restaurant loud at all...it was at a level that allowed table/bar conversation while encouraging dancing and just plain listening and enjoyment. If you're in the Ft. Myers area, do yourself a favor and go there. The only caution is that it could easily become your hang-out...short-term if you're visiting and long-term if you live close. As far as price is concerned...it's as fairly priced as any restaurant I've been to in the last 30 years. It's not "pricey" at all. It's well priced and the value is extraordinary. Last...the other guests are just as friendly and welcoming. Like Paul McCartney said..."this is a good place to be"....

Wonderful food, love the live jazz music. Little pricey but sometimes it's just worth it. Don't let the location and outside deter you, you'll love the food.

  • Nevin M.

Very disappointing. The food might be good, but we didn't go for the food; we went for the jazz. I called and asked if we could just come for jazz. "Sure", was the reply. So, we got there at 8:15 for a Saturday night of jazz. Told the hostess, when we arrived, "Came for drinks and jazz." "We have both," she replied. When we ask for seats, the response was that there was no room. Jazz patrons were limited to the bar and the few seats were taken. We could stand if we wanted. Never mind that the room had maybe 18 empty tables. I can't tell you if the jazz was good. I am not going to stand around when there is plenty of space. Too old for that. So, if you are looking for jazz, remember that this is a restaurant. Jazz here is a side dish, not the main event.

This place was a real surprise, and we loved it! As usual, another hidden gem in a SWFL strip mall. we kept reading the reviews and decided to give it a try for our anniversary. Tip: you need to make reservations. We had, but were running late, so I called to let them know. I mentioned that it was embarrassing to be late for our own anniversary dinner. They assured us our table would be safe. When we got there they greeted us, wishing us a happy anniversary, and offering us a choice of two tables. I should say that there were people who had arrived just before us without reservations, and they were asked to wait. We didn't expect any special treatment, especially since we were about 10 minutes late, but it was a very thoughtful detail to give us priority and a choice of seating. We picked the more private of the two tables. Be prepared for live music, dancing and entertainment at this place! It could be considered noisy by some. For example, my dad wears a hearing aid and I doubt he could have heard much in the way of conversation. However, my husband and I could talk in normal tones without worrying that the table next to us could hear a word, so the music and noise does provide a level of public privacy. We enjoyed the band and watched all the other people dancing and having fun. This is a place with old school dancing and Sinatra tunes. We were a bit younger than the average age in the room (not unusual here), but it was a great mix of people overall. It was also nice to be able to dress up a little bit. This place is a step or two above flip flops and shorts, for a nice change. The food was excellent. My husband had carpaccio, I had a beet salad, both good. He had duck with wild rice stuffing and grilled asparagus, and I had surf and turf of scallops and filet with grilled asparagus. The surf and turf were both cooked to perfection, something I have seen done wrong many times individually, and difficult to do on the same plate, especially with scallops. We were pleasantly surprised with a delicious chocolate dessert, on the house, for our anniversary. The service was wonderful, very attentive but unobtrusive. Often I would find my water glass filled and I wasn't even aware that it had been done! We would definitely go back, and recommend!

Wow! What an Incredible surprise!!:)) While visiting my stepson in Fort Myers, he suggested we dine at the Roadhouse Restaurant. I braced myself as we pulled into a strip mall near a Big Lots, imagining beer swilling and BBQ. Instead we walked into a lovely dining area, with contemporary classic style and vintage light fixtures with the pianist crooning a Sinatra tune... The evening only got better as the wine list and dinner options were a perfect blend of south Florida Fresh Seafood and Italian favorites. The Gnocchi was freshly made and cooked to perfection. The Seafood Fra Diablo was perfection on a plate... Couples of all ages danced to classic swing and Sinatra and the saxophonist was incredible! A must dine if visiting the area!!:)

nice if uninspired meal. We have been several times in a party..with couples or as a couple. Last night just had no spark. Competent service. Dull platter of prosciutto and parm. Soso quality of filet mignon very poor sauce...3 asparagus spears. Indifferent seafood melange of mediocre quality. No doubt we will have to return, but only with group. Very light turnout at 6:30 in high season. Perhaps our thoughts are not alone

We had dinner there tonight. We ordered two glasses of wine, a cup of lobster bisque, a small beet salad (plenty for two to share), seared sea scallops with risotto and the scallop casserole. Total tab excluding tip was $95. The service was good and so was the food but we thought that, for the price, the food should have been just a bit better.

This place was great. Loved the atmosphere and live jazz music. I had the duck which was perfect!!! My husband had a filet which was also cooked to perfection. The desserts are out of this world. What a completely fulfilling dining experience. We were promptly seated on a crowded Friday evening without a reservation. A hot minute later we had our wine order in, fresh bread at the table and filled water glasses. I ordered a bottle of the house Shiraz which was a great accompaniment with our dinner choices. The salad; a fresh spinach, feta, dried cranberry medley with balsamic reduction. Fantastic with every ingredient lending it's unique flavor complementing the others. Dinner for me was a veal gorgonzola over linguine to die for. Karen enjoyed a tender, sauteed chicken with capers, olives, artichokes, tomatoes over linguine. The waitress, who was superb, brought a lovely chocolate chip chocolate cake with vanilla ice cream and whipped cream decorated with chocolate, caramel drizzle. This also was phenomenal. After all this soft, pleasant live jazz band and talented female singer. A wonderful birthday event for my sweetie.

Since moving to Fort Myers this is one of my favorite restaurants. Don't let the surrounding area fool you, this is s great restaurant with gourmet food sure to please. Definitely worth traveling several miles for. Excellent service and live dinner music (Frank Sinatra style) makes this the perfect place for a celebration, date night or coffee & dessert night. Favorite entree: Chicken Homard - you've got to try this!!!

Located in a strip mall but the quality, service and ambiance is spectacular. Had the New York Strip and wife had the chicken parmesan and both were amazing. Will definitely go back. Went on a Friday night and they had live jazz. They play at a content volume as you are still able to carry a conversation.

We also found this place to be a pleasant surprise! When we pulled up to the strip mall, we weren't sure what to expect, but it turned out to be very good. Tried the beet and goat cheese salad for a starter - you really only need a half as it was huge. Both the ahi tuna and filet mignon were very good and cooked perfectly. Loved the live jazz band playing in the background! 340/365

loved this place. Was quite a drive from LeHigh Acres but well worth it. The food was great, music outstanding but the service was the best - Our waiter Glen went out of his way to make it special. It was My mother in law Betty's Bday and the band sang to her and they brought out an awesome dessert. Prices were really good,

Wow - talk about a pleasant surprise! We decided to stop here after reading other Yelp reviews and let me tell you, it really is a diamond in the rough. When we first pulled up, I really wasn't sure what to expect. It is, after all, in a small strip mall. But, it had a quaint little patio area outside that looked really pleasant, so we stepped in. This visit rewarded us with the absolute best meal we had during our entire vacation in Florida. Coming from Chicago, I thought that it was just impossible to find a decent meal anywhere in the entire state. Friendly staff, live jazz music, excellent wine selection and simply delicious food at Roadhouse changed my mind. Not a morsel of food was left on any of the plates - my wife and I polished off the appetizer, entrees and even squeezed in a delicious dessert. We had a VERY attendant server who went above and beyond to make sure we had a great experience. And the pricing is very reasonable. We will DEFINITELY return on our next trip to Florida.

Kind of pricy lobster was over cooked. Anti pasta was sloppy and poorly put together. The music and ambience of restaurant are great has all the makings but just doesn't follow all the way through to be over 3 stars

What. A. Find. Tucked back in an unassuming little strip mall on San Carlos Boulevard is one of the coolest restaurant concepts in Southwest Florida. My lady and I went here to celebrate our 2nd anniversary and Roadhouse Café did not disappoint! From start to finish, this was an incredible experience. We had the bacon-wrapped sea scallops appetizer, which was mouthwateringly good. After that and a loaf of their ciabatta bread, we enjoyed the Italian sausage with penne and the New York Strip. The pasta and steak were great! Really amazing value for the price. Our server, Geri, brought us a dessert on the house as we were celebrating. It was the Rocky and it was equal parts rich and delightful. Incredible food, attentive service, and to top it all off - LIVE JAZZ on a Wednesday night. It doesn't get any better!

Yup it's in a strip mall and not easy to find, but it is worth the effort. Roadhouse rules. Took my father-in-law here for his birthday and he loved it. He had the lobster bisque, which he said was great. I started with the Spinach Salad , which included Pecans, Bermuda Onions, Sun-Dried Cranberries and Gorgonzola cheese. With a balsamic vinaigrette it was very refreshing. For mains, I had the Pan Roasted Duck Breast that came with Cranberry Pistachio Salsa, Mashed Sweet Potatoes and Port Wine Demi-Glace. It was Wow! My lovely wife had Cedar Planked Lemon Pepper Salmon that came with a Citrus Basil Cream Sauce with Jasmine Rice and Vegetable on the side. She loved it. Her Dad had a steak and lobster combo. Be careful - the menu says "Market Price" - it was over $70.00. And to top it off - a live combo playing jazz and standards from the 50's and 60's. A great way to accompany dinner. A great experience.

Don't let the location fool you, this is a very classy place. Piano bar and dance floor. Fantastic happy hour appetizers, especially the antipasto misto. The regular menu is pricey and I've never ordered anything but the happy hour menu. The dishes look good. Great atmosphere

I feel like the Godfather for this place. I was the "First to Review" 5 years ago, and now 32 reviews later it is averaging 4 1/2 STARS. Well deserved in my opinion. I don't know why it took us so long to get back here, but it seems to be even better now. I had the Beet Salad and the Broiled Scrod and both were just perfect and delicious. My wife's Bolognaise was also perfect. We'll try not to wait another 5 years before returning! Service - 5 STARS Food - 5 STARS Decor/Ambiance - 5 STARS Location - 3 STARS Value - 4 STARS

Let's start out with the knowledge that there is a character limit for reviews. Usually me stating this means I'm well under, but in the case brevity does not prevail, there's your warning. First of all, this is Fort Myers, Florida. It's not Miami, or Tampa...it's Ft. Myers. Any individual under the age of 50 would die of boredom here, and I've got one foot in the grave already. During the day you'll find me watching Harry Potter for the billionth time. But at night? Oh, baby. At night, you'll find me under the romantic, dimmed lighting of the Roadhouse, somewhere in the corner with my friend over a glass of Meomi Pinot Noir, waxing eloquent on Nietzsche and political philosophy. Sometimes we order a simple dinner, sometimes we just like a drink. Either way, the entire experience is the one godsend of this particular forsaken part of the country. If god exists, he forgot about this state. I've been coming here exclusively for dinner with the exception of one night, my friend and I went to The Edison because "that's where the young people hang out (they're 40) (and with kids) (also obnoxious) (service is horrible)." The food and service was such a shock - all this time I've been spoiled by the Roadhouse with their spot on servers and bartenders, the most beautiful hostesses (the owners), and consistently amazing food...I just sat at my booth in The Edison and regretted my decision almost immediately. I say almost because there's a hallway so it took a couple seconds to walk to the pub. This review should be about the Roadhouse, in particular, I know - so why bring up another restaurant? Because comparison is sometimes the best convincer. Now that's over, here's the food: FIVE. EMPHATIC. STARS. You'll probably notice I've had a lot of filet of beefs over the years...and I'm here to tell you that I gave at least three people a bite of my 6ounce beef filet to try because I wasn't sure they'd believe the look on my face that showed just how amazing I thought it was. Actually, I ate too much that night because it was all so good (beef filet, garlic mashed potatoes, asparagus, plus chocolate cake and their almond gateaux, and bread...and tomato mozzarella caprese salad)...I went home and curled in the fetal position for three hours yelling "WORTH IT!" through tears of pain. Okay I wasn't crying but you get it. I've had their beet salad, caesar salad, basil cream pesto with angel hair pasta and italian sausage, scallops wrapped in bacon, and of course - the beef filet. I've tried their salmon, rice, green beans (they were like candy), and a host of other things picking off my friend's plates. Never have I met a more consistently phenomenal restaurant. The service? Superb. They put a black napkin in my lap because I was wearing a black dress. Seriously? High. Class. The last time that happened at a restaurant I paid $600 for my meal. And SO attentive. The ambiance? Romantic. The setting? Beautiful. Owner Sherrie (and Mark, her husband) worked as a designer for Robb & Stucky, so you know she has amazing taste. The music? Baby, you have some of the best players of the state in here every night of the week. Say hi to Gilly, the sax player - he's literally played with all the greats at clubs around the world. My grandparents (both since passed as they'd be 100 by now) used to see him play in Hermosa Beach way back in the day. This restaurant is the saving grace of this town. Otherwise I'd be back in LA telling everyone about the unbearable heat and about how I thought my drink was going to get roofied at a weird college bar one time. I'll miss the restaurant (and the servers, the regulars, the music) most of all. "What's Fort Myers like?" "Fort Myers? Let me tell you about this little restaurant in a strip mall I used to go to..."
